I 1969 ba dominikanerne om å få slutte å bruke sin egen liturgi (!), og heller bruke den nye messeordningen som akkurat da var ferdig. Det fikk de lov til, og nå er det bare noe ytterst små forskjeller i en dominikansk og en “vanlig” prests måte å feire messen på. While Father Thompson allows his audience draw their own conclusions from his research, there is a growing sense today that the general trend away from such legitimate liturgical diversity (a trend which found expression even around the time of Trent in the principle of Romanitas, repeated further in our own time in relation to the abandonment of so many particular rites in favour of the adoption of the post-concilar Roman Missal of Paul VI) was a lamentable impoverishment of the Latin rite.
There is visible, however, the prospect of a growing revival, manifested both in interest and in practice, as regards these other ancient and venerable Western rites. ..
