Første lesning i juledagsmessen er fra Jesaja 52,7-10, og får meg alltid til å tenke på ariaen «O thou that tellest good tidings to Zion» fra Händels Messias, der (den nokså like) teksten riktignok er tatt fra Jesaja 40,9-11. Slik var første lesning i dagens messe – Händels aria og tekst kommer etterpå:

Hvor vakre de er
der de løper over fjellene,
føttene til den som bringer bud,
forkynner fred,
bringer godt budskap,
forkynner frelse
og sier til Sion:
«Din Gud er konge!»
