Oftestad intervjuet i forb. med at Pew Research Centres nylig publiserte en unders\u00f8kelse: <em>Five Centuries After Reformation, Catholic-Protestant Divide in Western Europe Has Faded.<\/em> Der leser vi bl.a.:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Unders\u00f8kelsen viser at stadig flere vesteuropeiske protestanter n\u00e6rmer seg et &laquo;katolsk&raquo; syn p\u00e5 rettferdiggj\u00f8relsen. 47 prosent mener at b\u00e5de gode gjerninger og troen er n\u00f8dvendige for frelsen, mens bare 29 prosent mener at troen alene er nok. Er de gamle konfesjonelle skillelinjene i ferd med \u00e5 viskes ut, og i tilfelle hvorfor?<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Her vil jeg gjerne vise til Knud Krogh-Tonning (1842\u20131911), en viktig norsk luthersk teolog og prest som konverterte til katolisismen i \u00e5r 1900. P\u00e5 slutten av 1800-tallet skrev han om &laquo;den stille reformasjon\u201d. Han mente at det i lutherdommen g\u00e5r en taus, sakteg\u00e5ende bevegelse mot det katolske. Dette er fordi gjerning, liv og tro rett og slett m\u00e5 henge sammen. Krogh-Tonning viste til det pietistiske gjennombrudd fra slutten av 1600-tallet. I denne formen for protestantisme er fromhetslivet avgj\u00f8rende viktig. N\u00e5 ser vi en kanskje ny tendens mot en betoning av fromhetslivet og mot foreningen av gjerning, tro og praksis.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Men f\u00f8rst og fremst har dette \u00e5 gj\u00f8re med at den lutherske l\u00e6re om rettferdiggj\u00f8relse ved tro alene, er ganske vanskelig \u00e5 forst\u00e5. Den har fra begynnelsen av blitt opplevd som en slags schizofreni. Hva er egentlig gjerningenes rolle i troen? Det ble aldri avklart hvilken rolle de har. Det klassiske problemet i lutherdommen blir fort veldig subtilt og vanskelig n\u00e5r man skal fors\u00f8ke \u00e5 finne en begrunnelse. Pietismen markerer et implisitt brudd med denne teorien om tro og gjerninger.
