Of course, John Paul never made the announcement, because he was shot by Mehmet Ali Agca that day. The coincidence of the &laquo;culture of death&raquo; striking the pope on the very day he intended to launch a new initiative in defense of life has never been lost on the institute and its supporters. Fr.
