Paven stod i ettermiddag p\u00e5 Marienplatz, utenfor domkirken, Frauenkirche, i sentrum av M\u00fcnchen og mintes at han for 30 \u00e5r siden hadde blitt godt mottat som erkebiskop samme sted.<\/p>\n

It is deeply moving for me, to once again stand in this beautiful place, at the foot of the column of Mary – this place, that has witnessed two turning points of my life before.<\/p>\n

Here, the faithful gave me a heartfelt welcome 30 years ago and I entrusted my path to the Mother of God. The leap from professor into the service of the Archdiocese of M\u00fcnchen-Freising was enormous. Under such protection and with such noticeable love of the people of Muenchen and Bayern could I dare to take over this ministry as successor of Kardinal Doepfner.<\/p>\n

1982 I was here again, bidding farewell. Back then, the archbishop of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the future Kardinal Seper was with me, surprised by so much affection shown to me in Munich and said «The people of Munich are like those of Naples, they want to touch their archbishop and they love him». I was allowed to get to know the Bavarian heart in this place, where I once again entrusted myself to the Mother of God.<\/font><\/i><\/p>\n
