The Mass for Catholics became mainly a meal where people get together to eat, and so we have the family atmosphere of a meal for the Mass. I think we are slowly getting away from this view and going back to look traditionally at the Mass mainly as a sacrifice, and like all sacrifices it incorporates the meal aspect. But the music has still not been following this change. In fact the best way to accelerate the change is to change the music.<\/p>\n<p>Which raises the question of the celebration of the Last Supper on Maundy Thursday, coincidentally, with the introit of this Sunday: the introit of MT does not celebrate the Last Supper as a meal, but as a sacrifice of Christ on the cross within the Eucharistic meal of the evening.
