Lent is a time to \u201cadjust your life,\u201d \u201cto get closer to the Lord.\u201d That was the message of Pope Francis at Mass this morning at Casa Santa Marta. The Pope warned against thinking of ourselves as \u201cbetter than others.\u201d The hypocrites, he warned, \u201cdisguise themselves as good people\u201d and do not understand that no one is made just by his own efforts; we all need to undergo justification.<\/p>\n

Pope Francis began his homily stressing \u201cconversion\u201d as the key word of Lent<\/strong>, a favourable time \u201cto grow closer\u201d to Jesus. Commenting on the First Reading, from the book of Isaiah, he said that the Lord calls two \u201csinful cities\u201d like Sodom and Gomorrah to conversion. This shows us that we all \u201cneed to make a change of life,\u201d to take a \u201cgood look into our soul\u201d \u2014 where we always find something. The purpose of Lent, then, is precisely \u201cto adjust my life,\u201d to draw closer to the Lord. Jesus, the Pope said, wants to be close to us; He assures us the He is \u201cwaiting for us in order to forgive us.\u201d However, he cautioned, the Lord wants \u201ca sincere approach;\u201d and warns us against being hypocrites …<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
