kommunion)<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>There\u2019s no consensus yet in the Oct. 5-19 Synod of Bishops on the controversial question of allowing divorced and civilly remarried Catholics to receive Communion, according to president of the US bishops\u2019 conference, but he said many American bishops have their doubts.<\/p>\n<p>American prelates generally have \u201ca great concern with maintaining the bond of marriage, the integrity of that bond,\u201d said Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of Louisville, Kentucky, who is taking part in the synod.<\/p>\n<p>Both American bishops and bishops from around the world taking part in the synod do appear, Kurtz said, to support a streamlined process for annulment, which is a Church declaration that a first union was never a real marriage because it failed to meet one or more of the tests for validity.<\/p>\n<p>He also predicted that if a reformed process ends up meaning more annulments each year, any backlash over such an increase will be
